URGENT UPDATE!
While the 7 PM film showing of "Wild Nights with Emily" will still take place as scheduled, the Q & A scheduled to take place with Martha Nell Smith following the film--and advertised on the flyer for this event--has had to be cancelled due to a personal emergency with Martha's family. While we regret that the Q & A will no longer take place, we do hope you will still be able to join us for the film showing of "Wild Nights with Emily" at 7 PM at the State Theatre!
Join us for a showing of the film WILD NIGHTS WITH EMILY! The film follows Emily Dickinson (played by comedian Molly Shannon) and her prolific mid-nineteenth century writing career as well as her passionate, lifelong romantic relationship with another woman--her friend and sister-in-law Susan. While seeking publication, Emily (Shannon) finds herself facing a troupe of male literary gatekeepers too confused by her genius to take her work seriously. Instead her work attracts the attention of an ambitious woman editor, who also sees Emily as a convenient cover for her own role in buttoned-up Amherst’s most bizarre love triangle. The film is vibrant, irreverent, and tender, as well as a timely critique of how women’s history is rewritten.
Adults – $7.00 (includes fee); Students – $4.00 (includes fee)
Tickets available in person at the State Theatre box office.
