Tara Fickle Wins 2020 American Book Award

Tara Fickle, 2015 CALS First Book Institute Fellow, has won a 2020 American Book Award for her monograph The Race Card: From Gaming Technologies to Model Minorities, published in 2019 by NYU Press. Tara, an associate professor of English at the University of Oregon, received this award from the Before Columbus Foundation, a pioneer in recognizing writers whose work has historically been neglected by the publishing industry. She shares, "The Race Card is one of the few books published by a university press to receive the Award, so I'm thrilled that my ideas about gaming's role in race-making have an opportunity to be disseminated to a wider audience." Congratulations, Tara!
