Oliver Baker Publishes New Book

Oliver Baker's new book tackles abolition war and counterrevolution through an analysis of major abolitionist thinker and activists.
Baker, No More Peace

Assistant Professor of English and African American Studies at Penn State Oliver Baker has published his first book, No More Peace: Abolition War and Counterrevolution with University of California Press. The book covers major abolitionist figures like Nat Turner, Harriet Tubman, and John Brown and others to explore how "numerous insurrections, revolts, and armed campaigns of enslaved and colonized people advanced abolition war as the movement to win collective life over class society in North America." As Baker explains in a recent interview, much of this book evolved out of what he has learned from community organizing. He aims to inspire activists and organizers through his reading of the history of abolition and anticolonial wars.

Congratulations, Oliver, on this accomplishment!
