Michelle Huang, who was the CALS Graduate Research Assistant in 2013-2014, has accepted a position as Assistant Professor of English and Asian American Studies at Northwestern University. She says of her time with CALS, “Not only did I learn about the planning, marketing, and organizing of academic events (which will be useful in the future), but I got to meet professors and writers working in all kinds of disciplines, from science fiction specialists to nineteenth century Americanist scholars to alt-ac advocates. It’s easy to go through graduate school only having a student’s perspective, but CALS helps you see more of the richness of academic life and how it all operates.” She defended her dissertation, entitled "Molecular Aesthetics: Race, Form, and Matter in Contemporary Asian American Literature," in Spring 2017. Congratulations, Michelle!
